EVV Information and Resources
Helpful information for providers on Illinois’ Electronic Visit Verification
Electronic visit verification (EVV) is a technology-based system that efficiently verifies home healthcare visits. It collects information by capturing the time, location, and attendance of home care workers.
EVV is a federally mandated requirement. It reduces the likelihood of error while promoting program integrity through a practical and simple monitoring system.
EVV is designed to promote quality services and positive outcomes for our participants. You can find more details on the Federal Centers for Medicare and Medicaid (CMS) EVV webpage.
The University of Illinois Chicago’s Division of Specialized Care for Children (DSCC), under an agreement with the Illinois Department of Healthcare and Family Services (HFS), operates the Home Care Program. The Home Care Program serves participants enrolled in the Home and Community-Based Services Waiver for Those Who Are Medically Fragile Technology Dependent (MFTD).
HFS requires all MFTD home health providers to register with the state-selected EVV vendor, HHAeXchange.
In March of 2022, the state selected HHAeXchange as its EVV vendor and aggregator. Illinois is a hybrid state where agencies can use any qualified EVV vendor. However, EVV information must still be submitted to HHAeXchange.
To use an EVV system other than HHAeXchange, an agency must ensure compatibility with the Electronic Data Interchange (EDI) process. To learn more about HHAeXchange in Illinois, including the EDI process, please visit HHAeXchange’s Illinois webpage.
