Civil Rights and School Reopening in the COVID-19 Environment
Helping schools reopen safely and in ways that support equity among students is a top priority for the Department of Education. The purpose of this question-and-answer document is to help students, families, schools, and the public support all students’ rights in educational environments, including in elementary and secondary schools and postsecondary institutions, during the COVID-19 pandemic.
The guidance addresses schools’ responsibilities to students with disabilities in remote, hybrid and in-person situations, touching on everything from the right to a free appropriate public education to handling children who are unable to wear masks or maintain social distance.

An activity book from Hoyleton Youth & Family Services to help children discuss their emotions during the COVID-19 pandemic. The activity book is available in English and Spanish.

Children’s Hospital of Richmond developed this coloring and activity book that includes kid-friendly information on COVID-19 and tips for staying healthy and connecting with others.

COVID-19 Memory Book for Children and Families
To help children express themselves and record their experiences during the Stay at Home Order, we’ve created our own COVID-19 Memory Book that families can print out and complete.
The book includes an “About Me” section for children and youth to fill out as well as their favorite ways to stay busy, what they are thankful for, how they’ve stayed connected with others and a list of celebrations that happened during social distancing. There are also coloring activities and a page for children to fill out if they celebrated a birthday during the pandemic.
COVID-19 Prevention in Schools – IDPH & ISBE Joint Guidance
The Illinois Department of Public Health and Illinois State Board of Education provide information for returning to school including joint guidance for COVID-19 prevention in schools and a decision tree for symptomatic individuals in pre-K, K-12 schools and daycare programs.
