 ing of specific learning disabilities (SLD) and strategies for supporting 
 students with learning differences\n\nThe Illinois SLD Support Project wil
 l host an "Introduction to Specific Learning Disabilities: A Guide for Par
 ents" on Nov. 18 from 6 to 7 p.m.\n\nParents and caregivers will gain an u
 nderstanding of SLD\, its characteristics and effective ways to support le
 arning for individuals with learning differences.\n\nRegion 5 Specialist J
 osh Quick's presentation will include:\n\n 	Defining specific learning dis
 abilities\n 	Exploring the characteristics of learning disabilities and ho
 w SLD can look in different individuals\n 	Learning about five highly effe
 ctive\, high-leverage instructional practices (HLPs) and specific strategi
 es for supporting students with SLD\n\nBy the end of this session\, partic
 ipants will leave with a toolkit of practical strategies and a deeper unde
