SUMMARY:2026 Institute for Parents of Preschool Children Who Are Deaf or Ha
 rd of Hearing
DESCRIPTION:A free program providing support and information for families o
 f young children with hearing loss\nThe Institute for Parents of Preschool
  Children Who Are Deaf or Hard of Hearing is a five-day program for parent
 s of children ages 6 and under who have hearing loss. It will take place o
 n the campus of the Illinois School for the Deaf in Jacksonville from June
  9-13\, 2026.\nThe Institute focuses on helping families find answers\, bu
 ild connections and access resources all in one place.\nParticipating pare
 nts and caregivers will attend daily lectures by experts in the field to l
 earn about raising a child with hearing loss.  Lecture topics include:\n\
 nChild development\nTypes of hearing loss\nLanguage development\nCommunica
 tion choices\nHearing aids and cochlear implants\nDeaf culture\nParent rig
 hts\nSchool programming\n\nDuring the Institute\, children attend classroo
 ms with experienced teachers of children who are deaf or hard of hearing. 
 They will have the opportunity to receive hearing\, psychological\, speech
 \, language and educational evaluations. They can also play with other chi
 ldren who have hearing loss.\nSiblings are also welcome to attend. They ca
 n stay with their families in the dorms and go to recreational activities.
  There is no cost for families to participate.\nUIC’s Division of Specia
 lized Care for Children (DSCC) supports the Institute along with other spo
